My Own Place, was formed in 2003 and supports people with developmental disabilities in residential settings via the DC Home and Community-based Waiver. Services provided include; residential habilitation, supported living with transportation, periodic supported living with transportation, host home, companion and various clinical services including, nutrition, PT, OT and Behavioral Supports. My Own Place’s service philosophy and vision is steeped in the Arc tradition. People are the masters of their own destiny and our job is to support them in reaching and living out their hopes and dreams.

My Own Place has full-time positions available (30 hours weekly) with full benefits. Positions are either front end (i.e. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday) or back end (Thursday, Friday and Saturday and every other Wednesday). The opportunity to work 40 hours weekly is available based on periodic service needs of some people supported, required staff training hours monthly and relief work.

My Own Place promotes a family-like work atmosphere that gives staff not only the ability to do rewarding work with people with developmental disabilities and other disabilities but the ability to build positive relationships with both the people supported and peers. Upward mobility is possible from the DSP position. People working for My Own Place have risen from DSP to IMS, DSP to LPN or RN, DSP to Program Manager and DSP to QDDP. Staff enjoy traveling to exciting vacation destinations with people supported and have gone to places they may not otherwise been able. Good staff members tend to remain with My Own Place. A large percentage of our incumbent staff has greater than 10 years of tenure with the company.
